Light and shadow pose difficult questions for detectives: What does a shadow actually look like? Is it actually black - or blue, maybe even red? And is the light that creates the shadow actually always white? In a detective-like search for clues, the lecture shows how light can be split into its components and remixed - and that addition and subtraction are not just about numbers, but also about light and colour. We follow in the footsteps of Newton and Goethe, two secret agents in matters of coloured light, and finally unravel the mystery of invisible light. But can you always trust your own eyes or are they deceived by light and shadow? In your search for clues, physics can help you to find out how ideas about what light actually is have changed over the centuries. At the end of the lecture, all the detectives will see the light!
