150 years of Das Kapital - Capital in criticism
Conference at the University of Oldenburg on 24 and 25 March 2017
The conference takes the publication of the first volume of Capital by Karl Marx 150 years ago as the occasion for a scientific examination of the analysis and criticism of the capitalist mode of production developed there.
The organisers regard Das Kapital as an important contribution to understanding the structures and dynamics of capitalism - in this respect, capital as a real social relationship is the focus of a critical analysis. However, Marx's Capital is not a complete, perfect or timeless work - in this respect, the problems and open questions of Capital will also be the subject of critical analysis.
In this context, the aim of the conference is to contribute to the revitalisation of the academic reception of Marx's critique of political economy, which is almost non-existent in German-speaking countries.
The conference is being organised by the Forum for Marx Research Oldenburg and sponsored by the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, the Institute of Philosophy and the Oldenburg University Society. It is being organised in co-operation with the DFG project "Marx and the 'Critique in the Melee'" Osnabrück.
