Audience response systems (ARS) allow you to interact with students directly in your course and ask multiple choice questions, for example. Similar to the physical clickers used in the past, you can now use digital applications to create questions and make them available via a link or QR code. Students then take part in the voting anonymously using their tablet or mobile phone and you can share the results with everyone.
It is also possible for students to ask their questions using these tools. It is also a low-threshold and anonymous way of obtaining feedback. For example, after the first half of a lecture, you can ask whether the students can follow you or whether you need to adjust the pace. These tools are particularly suitable for digitally enriching face-to-face events and as an activating method for lectures. Students do not have to register for most applications, but can simply participate via a link or QR code that you share. With Cliqr, Stud.IP also offers an opportunity for real-time feedback directly in your course.

Please inform yourself about the current data protection agreements of the individual providers before using them and note that even registration (if required) may harbour data protection risks. Therefore, if possible, use GDPR-compliant applications that are hosted in Germany or browser-based services without registration. Do not use real names or personal data in your entries.

Audience response applications

Cliqr - Plugin from Stud.IP, which you can activate in your course under the "Administration" tab, multiple choice questions and evaluation of statements according to scales possible. You can find brief instructions and possible application scenarios here from the University of Osnabrück.

eduVote - can currently be used via the Academic Cloud with your university login after one-time registration. Allows an unlimited number of multiple choice questions and word clouds and can be integrated into PowerPoint as an add-in.

Slido - real-time surveys; Wordcloud, multiple choice questions, free answers, brainstorming, only the basic version is free. Available in the browser or can be integrated directly into PowerPoint.

frag.jetzt - real-time surveys with voting, can be used without registration.

particify - supports real-time feedback, real-time surveys with voting, multiple choice, single choice, free text questions. Registration with an e-mail address is required (lecturers only). At the moment, particify can also be used via the Academic Cloud (then hosted by TU Braunschweig).

Pingo - is a free survey tool developed by the University of Paderborn and supports multiple-choice, single-choice, free-text and numerical questions. Registration with an e-mail address is required (lecturers only).

Mentimeter - comprehensive functions: Scales, Wordcloud, free answers, ranking, multiple choice questions, quizzes,n only the basic version is free. Registration required.
