Counting rational points and applications

Abstract: One method to analyse algebraic varieties is to determine the number of their points over finite fields. Various methods have been developed for this purpose in recent years. In this talk I will first present a p-adic algorithm and then show in a second part how K3 surfaces can be analysed with it. Finally, this will be illustrated with a few non-trivial examples.
