Concept

The UniChor is a university choir open to all. It operates on a termly basis and forms part of the music degree programmes as an ensemble practice. The choir is open to anyone interested, whether they are students or not, with no entry requirements.

Following the enforced break due to the coronavirus pandemic, the UniChor is relaunching in the winter semester 21/22 under the direction of Silja Stegemeier.

The choir’s programme is a colourful mix of shorter works from different eras, cultures and genres. Variety is central to the concept, so hopefully everyone will find something they particularly enjoy or be able to explore new musical worlds. Basic vocal technique is an integral part of the choir rehearsals. The aim this semester is to form a choir that takes pleasure in making music together. At last, it is possible once again to make music together and experience a sense of community – both through singing and beyond. Concerts are a possibility, though no specific plans have been made as yet.

Anyone affiliated with the University of Oldenburg is welcome to join in, as are members of the wider public. Participation is free of charge. At present, proof of 3G status is still required. Knowledge of music notation is helpful but not essential. Similarly, we welcome those with previous experience of choral singing, though this is also an opportunity to rediscover the joy of singing together. No audition is required for admission.

Rehearsals take place on Tuesdays from 6.15 pm to 7.50 pm in the auditorium, Building A11.

A warm welcome to you all!
