This Scientific communication workshop will explore some important cross-cultural differences that clinicians and researchers in biomedicine may encounter between common practices of communication and job applications between German- and English-speaking nations. It will cover aspects related to general behaviour and expectations, scientific writing (including doctoral theses) and in job applications (e.g. CVs and publications lists).
At the end of this workshop, year 5 medical students will be able to:
- Identify differences in expectations of professional behaviour and practices in medicine and medical research.
- Demonstrate a detailed awareness of cultural differences between Germany and English-speaking nations regarding the writing of CVs and the use of scientific performance metrics.
- Differentiate the various requirement for writing a thesis for a PhD or similar qualification in the UK and other Commonwealth nations.
