What motivated you to become an anniversary ambassador for the University of Oldenburg?

In the six years that I have been Chair of the Association for the Promotion of Business and Law, I have directly witnessed many developments at the University of Oldenburg.
As an anniversary ambassador, I would like to draw attention to the fact that the University of Oldenburg has a fundamental impact on the economy and culture - and thus on the people - in the north-west region and is a great asset for the city: co-operation with companies is now a matter of course. In particular, Prof. Dr Nicolai's endowed chair in "Entrepreneurship" and the creative founders at the TGO enrich Oldenburg as a business location with their new ideas.
After a difficult start-up phase, the bridge between science, business and society has been successfully built in the new millennium and the region can confidently present the university and benefit from it.

What characterises the University of Oldenburg for you - please name three terms spontaneously.

Beacon for business, science and culture in the Oldenburg region.

Inspiring contacts between science and business.

Motivated and committed young scientists.

What do you wish the University of Oldenburg for its next 40 years?

The conflict over the name and the associated confrontation with the political past have had a decisive influence on the structures of the institution. Studying does not mean absorbing knowledge without questioning it. The naming process draws particular attention to this point and reminds students to remain critical. I hope that the University of Oldenburg will continue to uphold this fundamental idea over the next 40 years and that it will promote students as independent-minded young people.

Why do you think it is important and right for the University of Oldenburg to celebrate its 40th birthday in a fitting manner?

The University of Oldenburg has experienced many challenges over the past 40 years: the differences over the name, the impending end of Economics and Law, but also positive things such as the constantly growing co-operation with other universities, institutions and companies, the successful conversion of all degree programmes to Bachelor's and Master's degrees in the Bologna reform and, most recently, the establishment of the European Medical School. Everyone who has accompanied the university on its journey over the past 40 years - the students, alumni, teaching staff, employees and sponsors from the worlds of business, culture and science - can be proud of what has been achieved. Mastering these challenges together is a good reason to celebrate together.
