Research workshop: Back to the roots - Back to the roots

Back to the roots - Back to the roots

A theatrical research workshop
For children between 8 and 10 years old

Directed by: Hanna Puka, Lea Schreiber

It all starts with the tree.
1 tree. 2 trees. 3 trees. Many trees. Forest.
The better forests.
Eversten wood. Wooden head. Wooden leg. Wooden doll.
A child made of wood?
Twig.
Twig. Many twigs. Bush.
When my father became a bush.

Everything revolves around life and wood. How does that fit together?

The tree as a living being, its gnarled, elegant shape, its stability and lightness, its rootedness in the earth and connection to the sky have always fascinated us. Trees are everywhere, scattered along the roadside, in the park, on the meadow, in the garden, in the forest or on the playground. They tell of the past, of today and of the future. They were there before us and will be there after us. What have they experienced? And what will they experience? Do trees talk to each other? What do they tell us?

We are looking for a group of curious children between the ages of 8 and 10 who would like to go on an expedition into the deep forest - the Eversten Wood.

Equipped with carving tools, saws, magnifying glasses and lots of imagination (not just for storytelling), we will set off in search of unusual places, collect artefacts, look at the trees from new perspectives and let plants do the talking.

The research results, accompanying the productions of the Junges Staatstheater, will then be exhibited in the foyer of the theatre.
