"Gold" is sung, narrated and played by a singer and a drummer. With plenty of humour and music, the play addresses one of the most important questions of our time: What makes us happy?

Jacob lives with his parents in a poor dwelling by the sea just behind the dyke. Today is an important day for Jacob because he is allowed to go fishing with his father for the first time. He stands proudly in the waves, holding the line with both hands, and soon a large fish is wriggling on his line. When Jacob pulls it ashore, the fish looks at him with wide eyes: "Here you go, throw me into the sea," the fish calls out. "Throw me in and let me live, whatever you want, I'll give you." Jacob is so surprised that he lets the fish slide back into the water. He can't sleep that night. He might have wished for shoes, he thinks. Early in the morning, he sets off for the sea again and the miracle happens. The fish gives him a pair of beautiful shoes. When he tells his parents, they send him back to the miracle fish so that he can give them something too. And this wish also comes true. His parents are delighted. From now on, they send him to the fish every day and their wishes get bigger and bigger. Jacob doesn't feel good about it, because the fish gets thinner from wish to wish and his parents' behaviour gets stranger and stranger.
