General information

The Oldenburg University Orchestra has been made up of students of music and other subjects as well as music enthusiasts from Oldenburg since 1983. Since 1998, the 50 musicians have been directed and conducted by Rida Murtada. We play a new programme every semester, which is presented in concert at the end of the semester. The programme ranges from baroque pieces to modern compositions, with guests such as Manon Ablett (2012 and 2015) and Florian Poser (2010), or together with the Big Band of the University of Oldenburg or in projects such as A Midsummer Night's Dream in June 2009 or Peer Gynt in July 2012 together with students of music and art in Oldenburg. Another special highlight was the joint concert in January 2020 with the Bremen choir ensemble d'accord (conductor: Rucsandra Popescu).

Rehearsals take place during the semester on Thursdays from 19:30 to 22:00 in the university auditorium, and there is also one orchestra weekend per semester for intensive rehearsals.

New members are always welcome. Feel free to write to us with any questions: uniorchester@uni-oldenburg.de

The university orchestra is also on Facebook and Instagram.
