Bachelor students from five participating countries have the great opportunity to bring their research to where their national decision makers meet – their respective national parliaments. These five Posters in Parliament presentations in Austria, Germany, Ireland, Lithuania and Luxembourg have taken place between October 2025 and December 2025 and will continue until June 2026.

Learning and expanding from the national level, the project culminates in the Europe-wide poster presentation in the European Parliament on 10 November 2026 in Brussels.

Posters in the European Parliament – Brussels
10 November 2026

This is a unique opportunity to meet and speak with Members of the European Parliament about your work in the lively setting of a scientific poster presentation. Science and research-funding institutions will also be part of the interested audience. Presenting your research to Members of the European Parliament is an excellent chance to excel at science communication since your audience will most likely not be experts in your field of expertise. Furthermore, this chance to network will strengthen the European spirit among young European researchers and open doors for future civic engagement.

The call for abstracts is now open until 11 May 2026.

National Events

Lithuania

Plakatai Seime, 14 October 2025 in Vilnius

LCC International University hosted the first of five national poster sessions, bringing undergraduate research directly into the halls of the Seimas (Parliament of Lithuania).

Twenty-two students from six universities across Lithuania and Ukraine presented their research to parliamentarians, academics, and guests. The event was opened by Member of Parliament Hon. Vytautas Grubliauskas, who emphasized the importance of undergraduate research in fostering civic engagement and strengthening democracy.

Following the poster session, participants enjoyed a guided tour of Parliament and attended a live parliamentary session.

This inaugural event represents an important step in empowering undergraduate students to see themselves as active contributors to democratic society and bridging the gap between academia and policymaking.

Presenting my project at the Lithuanian Parliament was an amazing experience that I’ll never forget. It was inspiring to share my work with others who are passionate about research. I felt proud and motivated to keep growing in my field of study.

Ireland

Póstaeir san Oireachtas, 12 November 2025 in Dublin

30 exceptional undergraduate students from 14 higher education institutions across Ireland showcased their research directly to policymakers and parliamentarians on 12 November 2025 in the heart of the Irish Parliamentary buildings, the Oireachtas in Leinster House Dublin — connecting ideas, impact, and innovation where it matters most. Each project highlights the incredible potential of undergraduate research to inform policy and shape the future of Irish innovation.

The projects covered fields from medicine to psychology and social care and topics such as the invisibility of male victims of domestic violence, the self-stigmatization of being a single parent, challenging accentism in Ireland and making primary and secondary education more inclusive.

Each of the 30 PsO participants published their research in a special edition of SURE-J, Ireland's only peer-reviewed undergraduate research journal prior to the event, available online here. Short student testimonials on research impact and three minute videos describing their research in plain language are also available on the SURE Network PsO webpage.

All of those young students are the scientists, groundbreaking engineers and rising stars of the future.

Luxembourg

Posters in the Chamber, 27 November 2025 in Luxembourg

On November 27, 2025, the first Posters in the Chamber event took place at Luxembourg’s Chamber of Deputies. As part of this national initiative, 12 bachelor students from the University of Luxembourg were given the opportunity to present their research posters and engage directly with Members of Parliament and other institutional representatives.

The participating students, coming from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds, showcased projects spanning biology, computer science, and law. Their presentations demonstrated strong analytical, creative, and communication skills and highlighted the breadth and societal relevance of undergraduate research.

The event was attended by high-level figures from politics and academia, including Chamber President Claude Wiseler and University of Luxembourg Dean Robert Harmsen, underscoring the institutional importance of the initiative. In an open and welcoming atmosphere, students exchanged with policymakers and experienced researchers, and several participants were invited to continue discussions on their research beyond the event.

Posters in the Chamber is part of the wider European initiative Posters in Brussels, an Erasmus+ project aimed at increasing the visibility of undergraduate research and strengthening connections between young researchers and democratic institutions. By bringing student research directly into a parliamentary setting, the event contributed to bridging the gap between academia and policy-making and encouraged evidence-based dialogue on current societal challenges.

Austria

Posters in Parliament, 3 December 2025 in Vienna

The Posters in Parliament Austria event took place as part of the EMAS Conference, which brings together staff from European parliaments to discuss sustainability. Bachelor theses on topics related to sustainability and inclusion were presented to members of parliament as well as to participants of the conference.

During the event, students engaged in open dialogue with members of parliament, conference participants, fellow students, and other guests, discussing their research and its relevance to pressing societal questions. The event forms part of the wider Posters in Brussels initiative, an Erasmus+ project that aims to increase the visibility of undergraduate research and strengthen democratic discourse by bringing student research directly into national parliaments.

The range of topics reflected the diversity and societal relevance of the research, spanning areas such as women’s health, water monitoring, sign language, and access to higher education. The poster format encouraged exchange and direct interaction between young researchers and political decision-makers on current societal challenges.

After the conference, the posters were exhibited in the parliament's visitor center to the Austrian public for a period of three weeks at the Parliament's Visitor Centre. The posters will also be published in a special edition of UR: das Journal, the undergraduate research journal of the University of Vienna.
