Qualifications

With the MDE, you will gain the qualifications necessary for managing and leading distance education and e-learning projects within your current or a future organization. The program provides you with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies to apply within your everyday work environment, specially focusing on areas such as organizational and management processes, leadership and change management, information technology, and business development, strategic action planning, problem solving, ethics, and social responsibility.

Graduates of the program will be able to:

  • Develop and communicate a mission and vision for the implementation of distance education within an organization
  • Function effectively as leader, manager and team member within a distance education or training organization
  • Develop strategic goals and business plans for distance education within an organization
  • Analyze and recommend an organizational distance education technology plan, and manage the implementation of that technology in distance delivery
  • Design, implement, and assess the necessary support services for a distance education program

For whom is the MDE designed?

The Master of Distance Education and E-learning (MDE) program is designed for working adults who require highly flexible modes of studying, want to complete their degree without interrupting their careers, and are keen on enhancing their professional skills and competencies within their current work environments or as they transition to the distance education field. This independent form of study allows students to participate from wherever they are in the world, thus creating a global classroom with an international audience. Benefits of the Program

The Master of Distance Education & E-learning (MDE) gives future managers of distance education and e-learning programs the qualifications for managing e-learning initiatives of organizations in a variety of settings, from higher education institutions to corporate learning environments. The online format of study in the MDE is highly flexible, waiving all requirements of on-site study. Students choose from one of two specializations: policy and management; and teaching and training.

The Master of Distance Education and E-Learning (MDE), offered through a cooperation between Oldenburg University and the University of Maryland University College (UMUC), provides you with the comprehensive and practical knowledge that you will need to lead and manage distance education enterprises within educational, business, government, and non-profit organizations.
