Understanding the world with the computer

Understanding the world with the computer

Prof Dr Alexander Hartmann
Institute of Physics

Scoring goals like Michael Ballack, flying through space like astronaut Thomas Reiter or ruling a country like Queen Cleopatra. Only very few people can do this in real life. But with computer games, anyone can immerse themselves in such worlds. It is even possible to change the world on the computer or invent completely new worlds: You can be Harry Potter, Gaby or Tim from TKKG or Captain Kirk in the Starship Enterprise. It's similar with physical simulations. However, the aim here is not to win, but to understand how the world works. It is possible to investigate things with the computer that you can't get to with experiments. And you can even change the laws of nature in the computer in order to penetrate new and previously unknown worlds. This is what we want to show you in the lecture. We will be actively supported by children from the theatre groups of the Klex art school.
