The buzzwords "inclusion" and "diversity" have been circulating in the discourses of art education and art mediation for some time now. Despite different claims, they revolve around the same double assumption: the assumption of the difference of the addressees and actors involved in art-related educational processes on the one hand and their unequal treatment on the other. Read in an expanded social context, this field can be scrutinised for its ambivalent aims between caring and disciplining, as well as for its entanglements with regard to economic interests.
The series of lectures "(Un)Doing Difference on Complexities of Difference in Art Education and Art Mediation Fields of Action" aims to make a contribution to reflecting on the structural and cultural forms of producing and processing difference in art education and art mediation contexts from a cultural and difference theory perspective. It brings together positions that focus on historical contexts, current perspectives and institutions and scrutinise the (un)doing of difference. Social difference and inequality are not only understood as being brought to the field of art-related educational work from the outside, but also as phenomena produced within it. The assumption that institutions and actors are involved in the processes of producing and processing difference offers two opportunities: on the one hand, reflection on the complexity of art education and art mediation settings and, on the other, a starting point for disrupting established power relations.
