Where gender burns. (2025)

Current relevance of gender studies in science, culture and society

Public lecture series organised by the Centre for Interdisciplinary Women's and Gender Studies (ZFG) at the University of Oldenburg.

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr Katharina Al-Shamery, Vice-President for Academic Career Paths, Equal Opportunities and International Affairs at the University of Oldenburg

Since 2017, this series of events has been examining a broad spectrum of fundamental social, cultural and higher education policy issues in relation to their respective gender policies. In-depth analyses by recognised experts in gender studies from various academic disciplines and the field of equality policy consistently continue the tradition of inter- and transdisciplinary gender studies with a contemporary focus, in order to highlight structural inequalities as well as potential interventions and solution strategies. The series aims to highlight not only the potential for academic innovation but also the non-academic relevance of gender studies. The aim is to establish a dialogue both between external and internal university experts and students, and between them and an interested (university) public.

In the summer semester, the lecture series is being organised by Carolin Eirich, Friederike Nastold and Barbara Paul.
