Happy ending for Ada Lovelace - scientists in the film

Film and lecture series

Cultural Studies Institute of the

University of Oldenburg

November 2009 - January 2010

In the Year of Science, the Institute of Cultural Studies, in cooperation with the Centre for Interdisciplinary Women's and Gender Studies (ZFG), is focusing special attention on female scientists.

On several evenings, feature films, experimental films and silent films will be shown, introduced and discussed, in which the fascinating connection between gender/sex and science will be thematised. Films about various (historical) female researchers such as the mathematician and first female programmer Ada Countess Lovelace (alia Ada King), female astronauts (in the silent film Frau im Mond) or female literary scholars (in the feature film Heller Wahn) will be shown at various locations in the city (university, cinema, museum) - in conjunction with a lecture on science and cultural policy.

Conception and organisation: Prof. Dr. Barbara Paul and Kea Wienand, M.A., Institute of Cultural Studies, School III, University of Oldenburg,

in cooperation with the Centre for Interdisciplinary Women's and Gender Studies (ZFG) at the University of Oldenburg, the Edith Russ House for Media Art and the Casablanca cinema.
