Paper
The topic "Wood and Paper" was developed for lessons in year 8, but can also be used in earlier grades. The content covers topics relating to manual and industrial paper production. The centrepiece of this unit is the manual production of paper by the pupils during the lesson. First, the so-called pulp is made from paper scraps and then skimmed off using sieves (instructions for making such sieves can be found at the end of the document), pressed and dried. At the end, all pupils will have made their own paper.
The unit also includes time to visit a paper factory. There, the pupils can experience the dimensions of mechanised, industrial paper production at first hand.
At the end of the lesson, the pupils are then asked to build a stool out of cardboard that you can actually sit on - with a minimum of material effort.
In addition to the PDF file, you will find all worksheets, board images and slides as DOC files here - so you can customise the content to suit the pupils' requirements and individual wishes.
