Music Education Research in Spain: from the IMPACTMUS Project to the TCIEM Project
Three consecutive music research projects R&D&I carried out in Spain and recognised by the Spanish programme for the promotion of scientific and technical research of excellence (Spanish Government) are presented. Their justification and interest for music education and for society are explained, with special emphasis on the research methodology applied, the instruments used and the results obtained. The different ways of disseminating the results are also interesting aspects to consider.
1. IMPACTMUS Project: The Impact of Music Education on Society and the Knowledge Economy (2015-2018) REF. EDU2014-58066-P. Its aim was to determine the impact that music education in compulsory education has had in recent decades, and to document its potential contribution to helping the education system and the young people educated in it to meet the challenges of society and the knowledge economy. A mixed methodology was applied: quantitative and qualitative.

3. TCIEM Project: Transversality, Creativity and Inclusion in School Music Projects: An Evaluative Research (2022-2025) PID2021-1286450B-100. The aim is to generate knowledge from research data in order to determine to what extent different interdisciplinary teaching intervention proposals in music education develop the transversal competences of the curriculum. Specifically, an evaluative research is being carried out (from a qualitative and quantitative methodology) of different interdisciplinary proposals based on music that develop transversal competences, creativity, inclusiveness, and interdisciplinary teaching of the different areas of the curriculum in Infant, Primary and Secondary Education. In order to carry out these proposals we base ourselves on the Project Based Learning approach with a marked interdisciplinary character from the integrated teaching approach of the sciences and the arts (and, by extension, the humanities) known as STEAM.
