What is a "Voluntary Scientific Year" (FWJ)?

Conducting research, gaining initial work experience and getting a taste of university life – this is what young people can do during the ‘Voluntary Academic Year’ (FWJ) as part of the Federal Voluntary Service (BFD) at the University of Oldenburg.
Over a period of 12 months (usually from September to August), FWJ participants work on research projects across different schools and carry out supporting tasks within the academic research process.
In addition to their research work, they attend 25 training days, which include workshops on academic working methods and topics such as time management and self-management. Attendance at an Academic English course is also compulsory. Furthermore, they make use of the services offered by the Student Advisory Service and are given the opportunity to attend lectures and seminars.
What does the FWJ offer?
