What is a "Voluntary Scientific Year" (FWJ)?

Research, gaining initial professional experience and getting a taste of university life - young people can do this during the "Voluntary Scientific Year" (FWJ) as part of a Federal Voluntary Service (BFD) at the University of Oldenburg.
During this 12-month programme (usually from September to August), the FWJ volunteers work on research projects across all faculties and take on supporting tasks in the scientific work process.
In addition to their research work, they attend 25 training days, including workshops on academic work and topics such as time and self-management. Attending an Academic English course is also compulsory. In addition, they take advantage of study counselling services and have the opportunity to attend lectures and seminars.

Who can apply for an FWJ?
The Voluntary Scientific Year is primarily aimed at high school graduates with an interest in studying or research-related training, but also gives people without a high school diploma access to science and research.
