Why can't you just switch off your ears? Why does it sometimes beep in your ear? And why do pop stars wear a button in their ear? To answer these questions, we take a journey through the mysterious world of our ears. We learn about the funnel effect of floppy ears as well as the tympanic cavity with the tiniest bones that our body has so that nothing of the sound is lost on its way to our head. In the inner ear, we can overhear a rocking hair cell at work, and in the brain we can help the nerve cells sort through the word salad left behind by several speakers.
Once we have understood everything, we will also know why an MP3 player can be much smaller than a CD player, even though it contains the same music, and why a hearing aid is just as important for older people in everyday life as it is for pop stars on stage. Everyone would like to have the little man in their ear - but only if he always says the right thing to us! Registration by your teacher is required for this opening lecture (see registration ).
