Welcome to Oldenburg! Here you will find all the information you need for your Erasmus+ stay at the University of Oldenburg. 

As part of the Erasmus+ Key Action 171 funding line, we welcome students and staff from our global partners and vice versa. On this website you can find more information about living, studying and working in Oldenburg.

Erasmus+ funding rates and financial aspects of your stay

We are happy to support you and your study or teaching project with an Erasmus+ scholarship. However, it is important to note that the scholarships are not full scholarships. We therefore strongly recommend that you have some personal savings. You may find more information on the funding and the costs in Oldenburg below.

Financial aspects of your stay in Oldenburg for (doctoral) students

Estimated monthly expenses:

You should expect to spend about EUR 1000 per month for accommodation, health insurance, and food.

  • Accommodation: EUR 200 to 450 for student accomodation 

    We cannot guarantee that you will receive a room offer as there are more applicants than rooms available. We highly recommend to search for a room on the private market as a backup.

    Doctoral candidates are not eligible to apply for student accommodation and will need to find private accommodation which may be significantly more expensive Further information for doctoral candidates 

  • Health insurance: approx. EUR 140

    Students under the age of 30 are subject to compulsory health insurance (GKV)

  • Food: EUR 250 to 350
  • "Rundfunkbeitrag": monthly amount of EUR 18,36 per flat (can be split between flatmates)
  • Miscellaneous expenses (e.g. leisure, books, materials, etc.)

Other expenses:

  • Semester contribution (including semester ticket): EUR 311 for students of partner universities (as of winter semester 2024/25)
  • Residence permit for students from non-EU countries: EUR 110
  • Trips for international students: EUR 60 to 80 per weekend-trip

The sums provided are estimates to give an overview of the approximate costs for your stay in Oldenburg. The actual costs may differ.

The funding rates are based on the Erasmus+ project 2023 and apply to mobilities up to and including the 2025/26 winter semester. The calculation is made to the day. Full months are set at 30 days, plus any remaining extra days if the last month is not a full month. A maximum of 150 days may be funded.
