Teaching in English - Advice
An offer from Teaching and Learning in Higher Education in cooperation with the Language Center of the UOL
This offer is for instructors experienced in using the English language to teach academic subjects (English as a Medium of Instruction/EMI) who are looking for ways to improve their English language abilities with regards to their teaching. Limited time and opportunities often make it difficult for experienced university instructors to receive support in devolving their EMI abilities. By adopting an individualized, learner-centered approach, this offer can directly address the specific needs of a single participant and provide expert advice and feedback on one’s use of English in classroom.
„Teaching in English ‑ Advice” consists of the following three components:
• 45 minutes preparatory meeting between the instructor and the participant to discuss the participant’s motivation, their past experiences with English and teaching, as well as the participant’s goal(s) for the observation
• 90 minutes of observation of a participant’s teaching in English by the instructor
• 45 minutes of feedback on the observation during which the instructor will provide advice on how the participant can develop their English language skills further
Methods: one-on-one, observation, expert feedback and advice
Date: appointments will be arranged individually after registration
Location: to be agreed upon between participant and instructor
Trainer: Tim Dittmann
Scope: Teaching in English – Advice consists of four units (1 unit = 45 minutes) and can be recognized for the Certificate Program Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (module 3.3). Participation will be certified.
