Research visits and Industry Exchanges

SEAS provides a remarkable opportunity for its PhD students to enhance their research endeavors through immersive research visits. These visits offer invaluable exposure to diverse academic and professional environments, fostering cross-cultural perspectives and collaborative networks. The benefits of these research visits extend to expanded research horizons, enhanced skill sets, and a broader understanding of global research trends, ultimately enriching the overall academic experience for our students.

  1. Industry Visit in Bosch GmbH – Hatice Şahin İppolit

Hatice Şahin İppoliti has spent May and June of 2023 in beautiful Renningen Research Campus of Robert Bosch GmbH. As part of her industrial sabbatical program, she was hosted by corporate research group Advanced Digital Technologies (CR/ADX). During her stay, she collaborated with Cross-Domain Computing group to work on the analysis of naturalistic driving dataset with pedestrians provided by Advanced Vehicle Technology (AVT) Consortium. While working on her project, she also attended social events such as Bosch Family day and Bosch Diversity week, and enjoyed perspective broadening chats with her colleagues during lunches. She came back to University of Oldenburg with a unique experience and research results that she could use in her dissertation. Hatice is presently engaged in a distinctive collaborative publication with a colleague she encountered at Bosch.

Publication: Hatice Şahin İppoliti, Alexander Weibert Robert, Dietrich Manstetten, Larbi Abdenebaoui. Analysis of Driver and Pedestrian Gesture Use in Traffic. Automated Vehicles May Need More Than Kinematics in Ambiguous Situations. Under review in the 2024 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI '24). Association for Computing Machinery, New York, NY, USA.

  2. Shadowing in health sector – Jan Hendrik Röhl
Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, Jan Hendrik Röhl demonstrated remarkable dedication to his research. He embarked on a valuable work shadowing experience at Evangelisches Krankenhaus Oldenburg, where he had the opportunity to closely observe and interact with nurses, gaining deep insights into their roles and responsibilities. This experience significantly informed his research work and enhanced his understanding of the healthcare sector. Additionally, Jan successfully established a close collaboration with Oldenburg Krankenhaus (2022 – present), further emphasizing the importance of hands-on experience and fostering connections within the medical community.
