The Applied Neurocognitive Psychology Lab at the University Oldenburg in collaboration with the Division of Energy at OFFIS offer a

PhD position in the project:
Neurophysiology and modelling of expert cognition and decision making

The projects goal is to develop a model-based understanding of neuronal processing differences between expert and novice controllers of safety critical systems (e.g. power grids) that allows human performance prediction. Methodologically, the project combines brain activation measurements in fNIRS and/or MRI during realistic simulations of control tasks with machine learning for data driven human modeling.

We are seeking candidates with knowledge in machine learning (preferably in the context of smart energy systems), human neurophysiology (fMRI, EEG or MEG), and fluency in oral and written English. Candidates are expected to have an excellent academic university degree (master or equivalent) in the field of psychology, biology, computer science, physics, engineering, or a related discipline, and should be highly motivated. Publications are a plus. We offer a stimulating highly interdisciplinary environment with state of the art neuroimaging facilities and unique virtual reality simulation environments, and expertise in the machine learning based analysis of neuroimaging data.

The position is available from July 16th, 2019 until July 15th, 2022 (German TV-L E13, 65%).

The University of Oldenburg is dedicated to increasing the percentage of female employees in the field of science. Therefore, female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. In accordance to § 21 Section 3 NHG, female candidates with equal qualifications will be preferentially considered. Applicants with disabilities will be given preference in case of equal qualification.

Please send your application including a cover letter, CV, a list of potential referees, links to recent publications, and copies of certificates for academic grades to Prof. Rieger as an email attachment (preferred) in one pdf file to Alternatively, paper applications can be send to Prof. Dr. Jochem Rieger, Department of Psychology, Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg, 26111 Oldenburg, Germany.
