Stephan Ferenz studierte Elektro- und Informationstechnik mit den Vertiefungsrichtungen Nachrichtentechnik und Energietechnik an der Leibniz Universität in Hannover. 2016 schloss er seinen Bachelor of Science mit seiner Abschlussarbeit über "Global Motion Estimation for Aerial Video Sequences" (am Institut für Informationsverarbeitung (TNT)) ab.
In 2017 wechselte Stephan Ferenz für ein Auslandssemster an die Michigan State University in den USA. 2019 schrieb er seine Masterarbeit über "Analysis of Economic Incentives for Decentralized Coordinated Voltage Regulation in the Distribution Grid" in der Gruppe für Energieinformatik von Prof. Dr.-Ing. Astrid Nieße an der Leibniz Universität in Hannover und beendet sein Studium mit einem Master of Science im November 2019.
