16.12.2009: Registration for SAP TERP10 still possible until 10 January 2010!

For the SAP certification course "TERP10", which takes place from 8 to 19 March 2010, there are still a few remaining places available until 10 January 2010. If you are interested, please register with us by this date.

During the course, students from all Schools will be able to acquire a recognised certificate as "SAP Certified Solution Architect ERP-Integration of Business Processes". The fee-based course is offered as a 10-day block seminar in addition to the regular course programme. The certification exam will take place on 22 or 23 March 2010.

Friday, 13.11.2009: Successful thesis defence by Thomas Biskup

External doctoral candidate from the Department of Information Systems I / VLBA Thomas Biskup successfully completed his thesis defence on the topic of "Agile domain model-driven software development for medium-sized IT projects" last "Friday the 13th". The examining board was made up of Prof Dr Jorge Marx Gómez, Prof Dr Kurt Schneider, Prof Dr Michael Sonnenschein and Dr Marco Grawunder. At the end of the thesis defence, the newly-awarded "Dr" hosted a celebratory champagne reception.

03.11.2009: Near you - SAP certification course "TERP10" in WS 09/10

Building on the positive experiences and strong demand seen in the 2009 summer semester, all students at the University of Oldenburg will once again be offered the opportunity this winter semester, in collaboration with SAP University Alliances and SAP Education, to take part in an SAP certification programme whilst studying.

Expertise in using SAP software products is regarded as a valuable skill on today’s job market and enables students to enhance their career prospects.

The TERP10 training course enables students from all Schools to obtain a recognised certificate as an SAP Certified Solution Architect ERP – Integration of Business Processes. This fee-paying training course, which complements the regular curriculum, is offered as a 10-day block seminar. The course will take place from Monday 8 March 2010 to Friday 19 March 2010. The certification exam is expected to take place at the start of the week beginning 22 March 2010.

The research project "Competence and Research Transfer Network for Corporate Environmental Information Systems", which is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), will start on 1 October 2009. 18.09.2009: First successful TERP10 course at the University of Oldenburg

In the two weeks from 31 August to 11 September 2009, the first SAP Training ERP course took place at the University of Oldenburg in cooperation with SAP Education and SAP University Alliances. During this time, the 25 participants from business and technical degree programmes were able to learn theoretical knowledge from the field of Enterprise Resource Planning and at the same time gain practical experience in using the SAP system. 04.07.2009: Conference of Business Informatics I / VLBA

On 3 and 4 July 2009, the 2nd closed conference of the Department of Information Systems I / VLBA took place. At the 2-day event, which took place outside the university premises and thus outside the usual environment, all doctoral candidates of the department gave a 30-minute presentation on the current status or the current idea of their doctoral project. 30.06.2009: Registration for the VLBA project groups now open!

The Department of Business Informatics I / VLBA is offering two new project groups for students at the University of Oldenburg for the coming 2009/2010 winter semester. The first of these is the project group Sustainability Reporting in Web 2.0 , led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jorge Marx Gómez, Daniel Süpke and Andreas Solsbach. Secondly, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jorge Marx Gómez, Tariq Mahmoud, Ammar Memari and Benjamin Wagner vom Berg are offering the project group S-FABA – A Semantic SOA Framework for Adaptive Business Applications .

06.04.2009: SAPiens 2009 - New edition

There will be a new edition of SAPiens again this year. From 7 April, both students and, for the first time, lecturers can submit innovative ideas for new areas of application and business fields as well as new products for SAP AG or improvements to existing SAP software on the Internet-based ideas platform.

27/03/2009: Best Paper Award at Towards eEnvironment Conference

At the European conference Towards eEnvironment, Prof Dr Jorge Marx Gómez and Dr Ralf Isenmann from the University of Bremen received the Best Paper Award for their paper "Advanced corporate sustainability reporting - Towards a XBRL taxonomy for sustainability reports based on the G3-guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative". The conference took place from 25 to 27 March 2009 in Prague, Czech Republic. The jury selected the paper for first place from a total of almost 100 accepted submissions due to its excellent theoretical results. eENVI2009

20 March 2009: SAP in the curriculum for the 2009 summer semester

The Business Informatics I / VLBA department is offering a range of courses covering SAP topics for the 2009 summer semester. 02.03.2009: Call for Paper: Workshop - Computing Science and Sustainability Management

At"Computing Science 2009 - Focusing on Life", the 39th annual conference of the German Informatics Society, a workshop on Computing Science and Sustainability Management will take place. The conference will take place from 28 September to 2 October 2009 at the University of Lübeck. The workshop, for which contributions can still be submitted until 26 April, will focus on IT support for the economic and ecological dimensions of sustainability management and discuss research questions, perspectives and applications in this field.

This year, a total of four Oldenburg Computing Science projects will be presented at the joint stand of the State of Lower Saxony (Hall 9, Stand B22). In addition to two projects from the OFFIS computer science institute, Business Informatics I / VLBA, headed by Prof Dr Jorge Marx Gómez, will also be presenting two exhibits:

Venture Express is the name of a practice-oriented teaching concept for students of Computing Science and Business Administration, which Business Informatics I / VLBA is presenting together with the endowed professorship Entrepreneurship(Prof Dr Alexander Nicolai). It combines experimentation and prototype development with elements of business plan development. Interdisciplinary teams translate what they have learnt into real business models. They receive comprehensive support from the participating chairs and external partners.

The second exhibit of Business Informatics I / VLBA presents two research projects under IT Transfer that are on their way to becoming spin-offs: Enterprise Tomography and Repugraph. Enterprise Tomography stands for a process for the efficient identification and visualisation of integration relationships in heterogeneous and distributed enterprise software systems. Repugraph is the name for an independent and trustworthy reputation service that makes it possible to link the evaluation of isolated online offers to actual market transactions and supports cross-customer evaluation.

Nico Brehm, a former research assistant in the Department of Information Systems I / VLBA, successfully completed his thesis defence on the topic of "Federated ERP systems based on web services" in front of an audience of around 50 people at OFFIS. The examining board was made up of Prof Dr Jorge Marx Gómez, Prof Dr Klaus Turowski, Prof Dr Michael Sonnenschein and Dr Marco Grawunder.
