The University of Oldenburg and the University of Bremen have been collaborating in various areas since 2000. Since June 2016, there has been a dedicated student body for all students studying as part of this co-operation. The guiding principle is: “Everyone is part of the student body!”, meaning all students across all partner degree programmes in Oldenburg and Bremen:

Home university Oldenburg:

• French and Romance Studies / French (HB)
• Spanish Studies / Spanish (HB)
• Geography (HB)

Home university in Bremen:

• Slavic Studies / Russian (OL)
• Dutch Studies / Dutch (OL)
• Material Culture: Textiles (OL)

Anyone studying one of these joint degree programmes at either of the two universities automatically becomes a member of the student body. At the start of each winter semester, a committee is elected from among all joint degree students: the student council. For the sake of simplicity, however, people usually just refer to it as ‘the student body’.

There are a whole host of individual issues associated with our co-operation degree programme. Anyone who has been studying in Oldenburg and Bremen for any length of time will already have noticed this. These are mostly very personal, day-to-day problems: How do I put together my timetable? Which train do I need to catch? Trouble with the Examinations Office, problems with a failed written exam, internships, etc. We’re here to act as a point of contact for such issues, to collect and channelling complaints, and to bring them to the attention of the relevant authorities.

As the Student Council, our main aim is to make it easier for new co-operation programme students to settle in, to help with any problems that arise during their studies, and to improve the co-operation programme for students in the long term. We’re here to offer advice and practical support with any questions or issues relating to the co-operation programme. We represent students on the co-operation degree programme in various committees and have contact with the coordinator , Dr Ines Weßels from the DiZ, and the student bodies of the individual partner disciplines. As we see ourselves as representatives of all joint degree programmes, we warmly welcome students from all these degree programmes to join us and look forward to hearing from anyone who would like to get involved in the Student council.
