Hello, first-year students!
Here you’ll find information about Orientation Week, during which you’ll get to know your degree programmes, meet other new students and find out about university life in general.
The next Orientation Week won’t take place until October 2026, before the start of the winter semester. But below you’ll find the programme from the last Orientation Week:
Programme 6–10 October 2025
Welcome to the University of Oldenburg and welcome to the Gender Studies subject!
To help you get off to a great start in your first semester and your studies, there are various events planned for your orientation week. On this page, you’ll find all the orientation week events for students studying Gender Studies.
There may be a few minor changes over the next few days. So it’s best to check this page again just before the events :).
You’ll receive information about your degree programme, get to know the university, the campus and Oldenburg, and have the chance to network and meet your fellow students.

Monday:
Official welcome event
On Monday, the university’s official welcome event for all new students will take place in Building A14. See you on Tuesday :)
Tuesday:
Yay, today we’ll get to know each other!
Breakfast together from 10.00
We warmly invite you to join us for breakfast. We’ll be meeting in room 0-010b in Building A01. We’ll be there from 10.00 am to have a bite to eat and a chat together in a relaxed atmosphere. There’ll be some vegan/vegetarian treats and drinks, but we’d be delighted if you could bring something along too so we can enjoy a varied buffet together. Please bring your own crockery (if you can’t bring any, we can provide some, though we don’t have a huge amount on site).
Timetable workshop from 12.15 pm
A timetable workshop will then start at 12.15 pm (also in A01 0-010b and, for anyone who can’t attend in person, online at: elearning.uni-oldenburg.de/plugins.php/meetingplugin/room/index/d90398c2462c562f7250d947064eaeb7/69c16b46fb0d974f5860d6e8230061b6.
If you’re not joining us for breakfast, please do feel free to pop along to the timetable workshop; putting together your timetable for the first time can be a bit confusing!
It’s best to bring a laptop, tablet or similar device, and something to write notes with.
We’ll answer any questions you have about your timetable and help you put together a personalised one. We’ll be there for you until 2 pm.
Wednesday:
Introduction to the Gender Studies subjectfrom 1.15 pm
From 1.15 pm to 2.45 pm, the Gender Studies subject will be introduced to you. You’ll gain a closer insight into the subject, find out more about the topics you can expect and get to know the lecturers. The event will take place in A01 0-010a.
Campus rally from 3.15 pm
A campus rally is on the cards! We’ll meet at 3.15 pm in front of the canteen building on the Haarentor campus.

There’ll also be a canteen party on Wednesday evening. We from the Student council will be there, and if you fancy a bit of a party, feel free to join us! It starts at 9 pm in the canteen building on the Haarentor campus. You can buy tickets for cash on Monday at the Information Market in A14 and on Tuesday and Wednesday in the canteen foyer. Before the party, we from the Student council are organising a game of Flunkyball. From 6.30 pm, we’ll be meeting on the Haarentor campus behind Building A14 on the lawn. We’ll provide a bit of beer, but feel free to bring your own drinks too. You’re welcome to join us even if you don’t drink alcohol :)
Thursday:
Gleispark from 5.30 pm
We’d like to spend the evening in a relaxed atmosphere at Gleispark with a few drinks of your choice. Feel free to join us and bring some warm clothes.
Friday:
Games night from 5 pm
From 5pm, we’d like to round off the week with a games night. This will take place in room A01 0-008. You’re welcome to bring your favourite games or just see what we’ve come up with. There’ll also be a badge-making machine and a screen-printing station. So feel free to bring along old clothes, bags and so on that you’d like to print on. It works best on light-coloured fabrics.
