Orientation week
Orientation week
Orientation week
Hello, first-year students!
Here you’ll find information about the orientation week, during which you’ll get to know your degree programmes, meet other new students and learn about university life in general.
Programme 5–9 October 2026
Welcome to the University of Oldenburg and welcome to the Gender Studies subject!
To ensure you get off to a great start in your first semester and your degree programme, there are various events planned for your orientation week. On this page, you’ll find all the orientation week events for Gender Studies students.
There may be a few minor changes over the next few days. So it’s best to check this page again just before the events :).
You’ll receive information about your degree programme, get to know the university, the campus and Oldenburg, and have the chance to network and get to know your fellow students.
(You can find the full O-Week programme for interdisciplinary events on the central O-Week website uol.de/orientierungswoche)
Monday:
Official welcome event
On Monday, the university’s official welcome event for all new students will take place in Building A14. See you on Tuesday :)
Tuesday:
Yay, today we’ll get to know each other!
Joint breakfast and timetable workshop from 10.00 am
We warmly invite you to join us for breakfast. We’ll be meeting in room 2-240 in building W03. (Please note that this is on the Wechloy campus, as unfortunately no rooms were available in Haarentor due to water damage.) We’ll be there from 10.00 am to have a bite to eat and a chat together in a relaxed atmosphere. There’ll be some vegan/vegetarian treats and drinks, but we’d be delighted if you could bring something along too, so we can all enjoy a varied buffet together. Please also bring your own crockery (if you can’t bring any, we can provide some, though we don’t have a huge amount on site).
Timetable workshop
After the meal, a timetable workshop will follow (also in W03 2-240).
If you don’t fancy a bite to eat, don’t hesitate to pop along to the timetable workshop; putting together your timetable for the first time can be a bit overwhelming!
It’s best to bring a laptop, tablet or similar device, and something to write notes with.
We’ll answer any questions you have about your timetable and help you put together a personalised one. Afterwards, we’ll cycle (or take the bus) to the Haarentor campus for a:
Campus tour from 12.15 pm (meeting point in front of A14) and a meal together in the canteen
We’d like to show you all the places that will be important to you over the coming weeks. Experience has shown that knowing where to go can save you a lot of stress… Anyone who fancies it is warmly invited to join us for lunch. Of course, you’re also welcome to join us for lunch even if you don’t take part in the campus tour. We’ll meet in front of the canteen at around 1 pm.
Wednesday:
Subject presentation from 1.15 pm
From 1.15 pm to 2.45 pm, the Gender Studies subject will be presented to you. You’ll gain a closer insight into the subject, find out more about the topics you can expect, and get to know the lecturers. The event will take place in A14 1-113.
There’ll also be a canteen party on Wednesday evening. We from the Student council will be there, and if you fancy a bit of a party, please do join us! It starts at 9 pm in the canteen building on the Haarentor campus. You can buy tickets in cash on Monday at the Information Fair in A14 and on Tuesday and Wednesday in the canteen foyer. Before the party, we’ll be meeting at Gleispark from 7 pm to kick off the evening in a relaxed atmosphere.
Thursday:
City treasure hunt (venue and time to be announced)
We’ve organised an exciting city treasure hunt for you, where we’ll be exploring the city together with the student body. This is a great opportunity to get to know the city, especially for those who are new to Oldenburg, but everyone – even those who already know their way around – is warmly invited to join in!
Games evening from 6.30 pm
From 6.30 pm, we’ll be rounding off the week with a games evening. This will take place (once again in collaboration with the student body) in room A04 4-419. Feel free to bring your favourite games or just see what we’ve come up with. Drinks will be available for a donation, and if you fancy it, bring along your favourite snacks. We’re looking forward to a fun and relaxed evening with you.
Friday:
Time to take in all the new experiences.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at any time; otherwise, enjoy your weekend and we’ll see you at uni.
We’re really looking forward to getting to know you all in person during Orientation Week!
Until then, do feel free to pop over to our Instagram: @genderstudiesoldenburg :)
