Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

When do I have to take which modules?

As a rule, students are free to choose when to take a module. Only the seminar Introduction to Media Analysis from the module inm740 - Media Analysis is a basic course and should therefore be taken in the first Master's semester if possible. The seminar is only offered in the winter semester and can therefore only be chosen in the 1st or 3rd semester.

Further information on the study programme and a link to the study plan can be found here.

How do I register for exams?

Exam registration

You can access the exam registration system via Stud.IP: the ‘Study/Exam Administration’ tab takes you to the University of Oldenburg’s personal student portal. The exams are listed there alongside the relevant module and the lecturer’s name.

cumulative course result sheet

With one exception, cumulative course result sheets are no longer required for the Integrated Media degree programme! Examination results are registered and recorded via the university portal. Only active attendance at the lectures for inm750 must be certified via a cumulative course result sheet!

module result sheet

Module result sheets are also no longer required. Module result sheets are only issued in the area of specialisation (e.g. in ipb611). The module result sheet can be found in the module description. The marking is recorded on the result sheets by the relevant lecturers and forwarded by the responsible module coordinators to the Examinations Office for credit transfer.

The module certificate can be used for any type of examination if online registration has not taken place or was not possible.

The cumulative course result sheets are available for download here.

Where can I view the services I have already completed?

According to the examination regulations, marking must be completed within 5 weeks of submission and should also be forwarded to the Examinations Office within this period. It may happen that the marking and assessment take longer. In this case, it is advisable to consult the lecturer concerned, particularly if grades are required for enrolment purposes or by the BAföG office. In most cases, any problems that arise can be resolved quickly and easily.

Grades are usually published directly via Stud.IP and can be viewed under Study/Examination Management → My Studies → Academic Performance. When a new grade is entered, students usually receive an email notifying them that a new grade has been recorded.

If a grade that should already have been entered does not appear in the academic record, it is advisable to briefly consult the relevant lecturers and module coordinators. If in doubt, contacting the Examinations Office directly can also help if the module coordinators are unable to assist.

What do I need to pay particular attention to in the examination regulations?

The examination regulations also form the basis of the Integrated Media master's degree programme.
These can be accessed here.

Particular attention should be paid to the type of examinations to be taken in the respective modules.
Two artistic-technical productions with a written elaboration of a maximum of ten pages are compulsory for the module inm710 . In the compulsory elective modules inm720/inm730, one of the two examinations must be a seminar paper; in the module inm740, a seminar paper is compulsory. Successful completion of the module inm750 requires a presentation followed by a written paper in addition to a freely selectable examination. There is a special feature in module inm760: only one examination is required in this module. This comprisesa scientific and artistic paper.

The professionalisation module is dealt with in a separate point in the FAQ, as this can be configured individually and may require consultation with those responsible for this module.

In order to be able to write the Master's thesis , it is necessary to attend an accompanying course, e.g. a colloquium.

How is the focus of the master's degree programme determined?

The focus of the master's degree programme is determined by the courses taken from the modules inm720 and inm730. If two courses from the inm720 module and one from the inm730 module are taken, this results in the visual specialisation. If the auditory focus is aimed for, two courses from the module inm730 and one from the module inm720 must be taken.
It should also be noted that both examinations must be taken in the respective specialisation module. Accordingly, the auditory specialisation requires two examinations from the inm730 module; for the visual specialisation, both examinations must be from courses in the inm720 module.

What courses do I have to complete for the area of specialisation?

The professionalisation area, also known as the free module, does not require general course attendance or the completion of specific types of examination. Students are therefore free to complete internships, attend additional events or, for example, have examinations from other degree programmes credited.
Despite the fact that there is a great deal of freedom within this module, it is nevertheless advisable to discuss the planned plan for the professionalisation module with the study coordinators at School 3. Both Antje Beckmann and Nicole Griese offer regular office hours for this purpose and can also be contacted at the following email address:

Who is responsible for the individual modules?

The current module coordinator can always be found in the current module book or the module overview on the Stud.IP platform! We endeavour to update this list regularly, but nevertheless ask you to research it yourself.

What do I have to consider when registering for the Master's thesis?

Before registering for the Master's thesis, please note that at least 75 CP must have been earned. In addition, the topic must be agreed with the first and second examiners prior to registration.

Successful completion of the Master's thesis module also requires attendance at a colloquium or an equivalent event.

Once all criteria have been met, the Master's thesis is registered using the thesis registration form.

Further information, forms and tips on the thesis can be found here.

Who can I write my Master's thesis with?

A list of authorised lecturers can be found under the following link:

How can I have additional course enrolments certified?

Events that have been attended in addition to the compulsory seminars and lectures within the degree programme can be certified on an unofficial cumulative course result sheet by those responsible for the degree programme. This can be used by future employers, for example, as proof of additional commitment during the degree programme. A template in Word format can be found here.
