Rotaru, Doina

Credo

Every composer writes the music that they would like to listen to.   Each composer chooses his/her own solutions and synthesis , according to his/her culture, musical traditions,  preferences,  sensibility ,  musical obsessions.

After all the experiences and all the directions of the XX-th century, I think that it’s  necessary to find again the primordial functions of Music, its power of expression, of emotion.  I like when Music is able to create a spiritual elevation; I like when Music has magic powers, able to disconnect me from everyday life; I like Music as a process, an evolution, with a clear idea which could be followed by everyone; I like the heterophony and I like the circular forms, for exemple  the construction in spiral form –able to create   unity and diversity in the same time

My music has a deep connection with traditional Romanian music, in both aspects: traditional peasant music and Byzantine music. My main preoccupation is to create a special musical world that links the ancient archetypes from the traditional Romanian  songs with the modern languages and techniques.  I am also trying to connect Romanian archaic music with universal traditional patterns. (Doina Rotaru)
