FAQ - The Student council introduces itself

You want to know who belongs to your Student council and what we actually do? Here is a brief overview of our members and our tasks.

What is a Student council?

All students within a degree programme together form the so-called student body. You do not have to register or be elected for this, this is simply done through admission to the degree programme.

In order for a student body to be able to communicate its needs, concerns, wishes and comments to the university, it needs representatives to represent it. These representatives then form the so-called Student council (FSR).

As a Student council, we are basically the link between the university and the students and act as a mouthpiece for the student body.

What does a Student council do?

Our main role is to represent the interests of all students within the student body. For this reason, please feel free to send us your requests, problems, concerns and comments so that we can pass them on!

Specifically, our responsibilities include:

  • Committee work
  • Advice on academic matters
  • Acting as a voice for students (mediation, conflict resolution, suggestions)

We also organise the orientation week (O-Woche) and other events outside the regular university routine. Sometimes these take place solely within our degree programme (such as coffee and cake at the start of the semester), but in collaboration with other Student councils at the Institute, we also occasionally organise larger celebrations, to which everyone is, of course, welcome! These include, for example, the 2024 Winter Party or a joint O-Woche for the winter semester.

How do I become part of the Student council?

The Student council is elected by the student body. Our group currently consists of six people, but we are of course always open to new members! Would you also like to get involved in shaping our degree programme or organise something for your fellow students? Get in touch with us! We are always open to new ideas and look forward to any kind of exchange.
