The introduction of educational plans for day-care centres in 2004 is a direct reaction to Germany's poor performance in the PISA study. In order to ensure a better connection to school, the area of "aesthetic education" is now also becoming the focus of early education. There is a consensus that prefabricated arts and crafts sheets and a "decorative design" that is perceived as childish no longer fulfil the requirements of early childhood education.

But: how should aesthetic education in the field of visual arts be implemented in daycare centres? And: how much (pre-)school art education is necessary? The topos of the "child artist", which has emerged since the art education movement, is a central question that needs urgent clarification.

The aim of the lecture is to relate the question of "child and art" to the current situation of elementary education.
