The technology room as a "workplace" for the technology teacher has hardly been empirically researched to date. This is not just a gap in academic research, as the equipment in the technology room has a major influence on the content and quality of teaching. Advancing digitalisation is creating new challenges in terms of the design and equipment of the classroom, but the classic subject areas of technology lessons still require the attention of teachers when designing the classroom.

The project "Fachraum Technik Niedersachsen" was started by the Technical Education working group with the aim of empirically recording the equipment of technology rooms for the first time and investigating the extent to which the equipment is undergoing change due to advancing digitalisation and what requirements technology teachers place on their "workplace" against this background.

The project began with a number of student research projects as part of Bachelor's and Master's theses, which have now resulted in an initial representative survey of schools in Lower Saxony.
