TeGym - Technology at grammar school
Since the beginning of the year, the Technical Education working group has been supporting a school experiment at the OBS Uplengen, in which technology lessons are being trialled at secondary school level 1. For some time now, various parties have been calling for the extension of general technical education to all types of schools. To date, general technology lessons in Lower Saxony have only been provided for secondary level 1 in Hauptschule, Realschule and Oberschule. An important current task of technology teaching is to promote an interest in technology, also in view of the shortage of skilled labour in technical appointments and in the engineering sector. This does not affect the educational task of promoting technical maturity with regard to life in a technologised world and critical reflection on the use of technology with regard to assessing the consequences and against the background of education for sustainable development. The school trial will run for six years. This means that two complete cohorts can be accompanied from the fifth to the tenth grade. During this time, the Technical Education working group will support the project by developing a proposal for a possible core curriculum and by designing and trialling specific lesson content. In addition, the school experiment will be analysed with regard to its effects on technical maturity and attitudes towards technology. The monitoring of the school experiment is orientated towards the design-based research approach, which implies a methodically differentiated cooperation between university technology didactics experts and practising teachers. The development of the core curriculum is based on van den Akker's approach. This involves going through different phases that involve various stakeholders, e.g. from the specialised community, education policy and pupils.
