In the binational project "MariX. Your Maritime Experience" project, the Technical Education working group is developing an educational concept for maritime technologies in general education (technology) lessons. The focus is on a model boat building competition that is designed in such a way that it can be realised by interested teachers without special equipment. The aim is to counteract the shortage of young talent in the shipping industry and the STEM sector in general. In addition, the border region between the Netherlands and Germany is to be networked so that the largest possible pool of potential young talent is created and the barrier effect of the border is reduced. The core team of the project consists of: the business organisations Mariko and FME, the secondary school in Uplengen, ROC Friese Poort, Innovam, the Maritieme Academie Harlingen and the NHL Stenden Hogeschool. Sustainability and digitalisation are implemented in the design of the teaching content. This is done in two ways. Firstly, at the level of the selection of the content focus. Both sustainability and digitalisation play a crucial role in modern shipping. Secondly, at the level of the design of the teaching materials. The required materials are to be provided within a learning app so that they are available to as many schools as possible with as few resources as possible.

The "MariX" project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the provinces of Drenthe, Fryslân and Groningen as well as the state of Lower Saxony as part of the INTERREG VA Germany-Nederland programme.
