Prospects for the Future of Learning: Artificial Intelligence Applications in Higher Education

AIEd

Background Information

„Prospects for the Future of Learning: Artificial Intelligence Applications in Higher Education“ is funded by The Volkswagen Foundation and the state of Lower Saxony. In collaboration with our international partners in the Center for Open Education Research (COER), the project aims to explore global perspectives on the current and potential use of artificial intelligence applications in teaching and learning. To achieve this, the project will develop future scenarios which will be evaluated comparatively by faculty members in higher education across five countries/regions (Germany, China/Japan/South Korea, USA, Spain, and Turkey) and across two subject areas (Social Sciences and Humanities, and STEM).

Research Questions

  • What are potential scenarios for AI applications in higher education and what opportunities do they afford for teaching and learning?
  • What kind of risks, ethical and legal implications – with particular attention to issues of fairness in relation to gender and diversity – must be considered?
  • What are the needs for further training of university teachers in the context of AIEd?
