Information events

We offer events at regular intervals to support you in your studies. Different formats are suitable depending on how far along you are in your studies. You can find an overview of our programmes here.

We strongly recommend that all new Bachelor students attend one of the maths pre-courses before starting their studies!

Early Bird Meeting

Every year, we organise an early bird meeting for all new first-year students, which takes place at the end of September before O-Week. Here you already have the opportunity to get to know your new fellow students and ask all your questions about the start of your studies and beyond. After a relaxed afternoon, we go to the pub and introduce you to the tradition of "pub evenings".

Come along - we look forward to seeing you!

Orientation week

The orientation week (O-week) is your first week at university. There are no regular lectures and seminars here yet, but there are many events that will show you how to find your way around the university. Among other things, we will help you to create a timetable, use Stud.IP and get to know your fellow students (also known as fellow students).

In addition to the university's central events, we, the physics student body, also organise numerous events. Please take a look at the O-Week page at O-Week programme for the latest schedule of our events!

Preliminary course in maths

Physics is a natural science that works a lot with mathematical methods - accordingly, maths will be an important part of your studies. However, university mathematics is different from the maths you have learned at school. To ensure that you get off to a good start in university maths, we therefore recommend that you attend a preliminary course in maths before you start your Bachelor's degree.

The preliminary course usually takes place two weeks before your orientation week and is based on everyday university life with lectures and exercises. This makes the transition from school to university much easier for you. In addition to the introduction to university maths, there will also be plenty of entertainment at various events and you will get to know your fellow students. You can find more detailed information on the maths preliminary course page.

LaTeX course

With \( \LaTeX{} \) you can give your scientific texts a professional layout with little effort. The writing programme allows you to easily incorporate and reference mathematical formulas in your texts, place images exactly where you want them, cite literature correctly and much more... Once you have learnt how to use it, you will never want to write texts any other way again.

We recommend that all students learn \( \LaTeX{} \) during their studies - the easiest way to do this is with our introductory course. If you have an internship, your final thesis or something similar coming up soon, then come straight to our next course. This takes place once per semester on two evenings.

Bachelor thesis information event

Are you about to complete your Bachelor's degree and will soon be writing your Bachelor's thesis? Then our Bachelor's thesis information event is just right for you!

At the event you will find out - in addition to the most important regulations and formalities of a Bachelor's thesis - where and on which topics you can write your thesis. During the evening, the physics working groups will introduce themselves and advise you on possible topics for your thesis. Talk to the professors - it is not uncommon for topics to be assigned at this event.

This event usually takes place once a year in the winter semester and is therefore particularly aimed at students in their fifth semester and beyond.
