Literature tips for studying maths

Our literature recommendations
An important part of studying maths is the individual examination of the content in self-study. In addition to lecture slides, transcripts or lecture notes, the right literature can also provide enormous support, which is often underestimated by many students!
On this page, we would like to introduce you to the most important books that you will come across during your studies and that can help you. To make your search a little easier, we have already provided you with the relevant links to the ORBISplus portal. However, you will also find many of these books in the university library, where you can also have a look at them!
Mathematical problem solving and proof
Daniel Grieser:
Mathematical Problem Solving and Proving
Springer Spectrum
Since the module MPB was specially designed by Daniel Grieser and refers to the corresponding book "Mathematisches Problemlösen und Beweisen" by Daniel Grieser, this is of course the work of choice for this lecture.
Analysis I
Daniel Grieser:
Analysis I
Springer Spectrum
The book "Analysis I" by Daniel Grieser presents all topics of Analysis I in an extremely understandable, structured and detailed way.
Linear algebra
Gerd Fischer:
Textbook of Linear Algebra and Analytic Geometry
Springer Spectrum
For linear algebra, the books "Lernbuch der Linearen Algebra" by Gerd Fischer and our alternative "Lineare Algebra" by Siegfried Bosch are equally recommended. Both books have a similar structure and deal with one or the other topic in more detail than the other.
Analysis II (subject area: Integration)
Daniel Grieser:
Analysis I
Springer Spectrum
The book "Analysis I" by Daniel Grieser is recommended for the integration theory in Analysis IIa. It is very easy to read and the material is explained in detail.
Analysis II (Topics: Differential equations and Analysis IIb)
Daniel Grieser:
Analysis II
Lecture notes
The script "Analysis II" by Daniel Grieser provides extensive explanations for the topic of ordinary differential equations and the lecture Analysis IIb. The script can be found on Daniel Grieser's homepage.
Algebra
Gerd Fischer:
Textbook of Algebra
Springer Spectrum
Algebra I is well presented in the book "Lehrbuch der Algebra" by Gerd Fischer and partly in our alternative "Algebra" by Siegfried Bosch. However, Bosch's book in particular focuses more on the topics of Algebra II, for which both works are equally suitable.
Stochastics
Achim Klenke:
Probability Theory
Springer Spectrum
The book "Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie" by Achim Klenke presents stochastics on the basis of measure theory in a beautiful and very detailed way. It is therefore particularly recommended for the stochastics of the subject bachelor.
