That's right, only 5% of the biomass of all mammals are wild animals. 36% of the biomass is attributable to humans, the majority - more than half - comes from animals that are bred and kept by humans. These are mainly cattle and pigs. The situation is similar for birds, with 70 % of their biomass coming from farmed poultry (Bar-on et al. 2018).
Overall, the biomass of animals in human breeding accounts for 4% of the total biomass of all animals.
Apart from rice cultivation, the main GHG source is animal production in agriculture. Agriculture accounts for between 17 and 32% of GHG emissions. The emissions are made up of direct emissions, emissions from changes in land use, the use of agrochemicals and agricultural activities.
Intensive livestock farming significantly reduces the biodiversity of organisms and changes their proportional distribution (Ceballos et al. 2015, Williams et al. 2018, IPBES 20191)
