DS1: Concept and meaning
Introduction
This double lesson serves as an introduction to the term "Earth Over-shoot Day" and as preparation for the climate and raw materials expedition.
After a short brainstorming session using the Earth Over-shoot Day data from 1987 to 2016, the pupils read information on the term and discuss it. They then work in small groups to develop suggestions on how this development can be counteracted. It is important that the pupils' suggestions can be implemented in practice. If necessary, research can be done on the Internet. The suggestions are recorded on posters, presented in plenary and discussed.
Preparations
For this module, two teaching modules from Germanwatch, each lasting 90 minutes, can be booked as an extension to the topic of climate and raw materials. Germanwatch offers two projects. Germanwatch uses satellite images to show the impact of raw material extraction and our energy supply.
These projects can complement the Overshoot Day module, but must be scheduled in advance.
