About us

What is the student body?

All students of the Department of Economics and Law at the University of Oldenburg form the student body of Economics and Law. Exception: The students of Economics Education and the Master's programme in Sustainability Economics and Management each form their own student body with their own student councils.

What is the Student council for Economics and Law?

The Student council for Economics and Law (FSR WiRe ) is elected by the student body at the annual general assembly to represent the student interests of the student body at the university and to make the studies of the students of the student body better, more efficient and more enjoyable.

What does the Student council for Economics and Law do?

Only a relatively small part of our work is "visible" to the outside world.

The Student council's work for their fellow students begins even before they actually start their studies. In the orientation week (O-Week) we organise, we want to give new students the opportunity to settle in to Oldenburg and the university by sharing our experiences and giving them the chance to get to know new people.

We have been organising parties and other events for students regularly during the semester for several years now. The BWLer-Party is an established brand in Oldenburg. We use the proceeds from the events to finance large parts of the O-Week and other projects that benefit our students.

During the course of their studies, we provide our students with help and advice on all problems and questions relating to their studies. Internally, we have created various departments so that we can work effectively and efficiently in the interests of all students in the student body.

Another large and very important part of our work is only known to very few students and therefore happens "quietly and unnoticed" for most - in the background. We are the student representatives on numerous university self-governance committees within School II. There we stand up for your interests. Student council representatives also sit on examining boards, appointment committees and admissions committees.

How can I get involved?

Get involved in the Student council!

Not in the mood to let your studies "just happen"? Do you want to have a say in important aspects of studying and teaching, have an influence and not have to put up with decisions "from above"? Would you like to get involved in voluntary work? Are you looking for contact with nice students?

Then why not visit us at our next meeting! You can find the meeting dates on Instagram.

We are always happy to welcome new faces who would like to support us in our work.

Event planning

WiRe Welcome Night, Ersti-Bash, WiWi goes..., Kofetti-Bash, Absolventenfeier - you know the drill!
You love the parties organised by our student body and always think how much fun you had at the party? We do too! In constant dialogue with all event locations and DJs, we make sure you have the variety you need during your studies. Our legendary parties are a permanent fixture in Oldenburg's nightlife. We always do our best to develop and organise new party ideas and make them as student-friendly as possible so that we can celebrate another legendary night at university with you.

PR & Design

The Public Relations team is responsible for the public image and presentation of the Student council. For example, this department organises the University Information Day (HIT) as well as the Long Night of Seminar Papers. They are always looking for new ways to support student life. The team also looks after social media channels such as Instagram and the FSR's corporate design.

Sponsoring

As a sponsoring team, we take care of all kinds of events. Our main focus is on the orientation week. In particular, the freshers' bags - which are filled to the brim every year - and the drinks are especially important. Keep your eyes peeled, perhaps you will see more of our partners and the cooperation with various companies in the coming weeks.

Committee work

In the university committees, we can actively influence decisions that affect everyday student life and are in dialogue with other representatives of the university. In terms of content, this involves the distribution of study quality funds (SQM), personnel matters or topics relevant to examinations and admissions.

There are several committees that affect us:

Back office

The back office team are the people in the background. The back office ensures that the Student council can work productively.

This includes maintaining the homepage and the student council room. In addition, the dates for the plenary meeting and the regular meetings are coordinated with the Executive Board and an agenda is drawn up.

Internal communication

As Internal Communications, we take care of communication between the individual departments within the WiRe student body. It is important to us that the student body presents a united front and that everything is transparent. To this end, we plan a few cool internal events, such as the annual Kohltour, the FSR trip, our summer party, etc. From 2023, first-year students can also look forward to the Ersti-Fahrt again.
