Structure of the study programme
In the first two semesters of the Environmental Sciences degree programme, the timetable is the same for all students. You have basic lectures in chemistry, biology, maths, physics and geosciences. Most modules also include practical exercises.
The "real" undergraduate modules start in the third semester. They can be freely selected and combined; the "paths" - see below - are intended to provide orientation. In the second semester, there is a comprehensive information event to help you make your selection from the numerous modules. Roughly speaking, you can initially choose one of the two specialisations Terrestrial Environmental Sciences (Landscape Ecology) or Marine Environmental Sciences. You can then specialise further within these two areas.
In the field of landscape ecology, there are the areas of geoecology (especially soil science, hydrology and botany), (environmental) planning and ecology & nature conservation.
If you focus on marine environmental sciences, there are specialisations in ecology, chemistry/analytics, modelling and (environmental) physics.
But here too, all modules can be freely selected and combined, the specialisations are merely a recommendation and we also advise you to choose what interests you and what you enjoy. What exactly that is usually becomes clear very quickly during the course. And if you have any questions regarding your choice of module, we as a student body are of course always available to help.

Paths
The study paths of the Environmental Sciences degree programme are intended to provide guidance for your own specialisation. It is important to note that they are only recommendations and are not compulsory.
- Biogeochemistry study path
- Study path Geoecology
- Study path Landscape Ecology & Planning
- Study path Marine Ecology
- Modelling study path
- Study path Oceanography
- Study path Terrestrial Ecology
You can find a module overview for the individual pathways here. Further information is available at the relevant information events.
