Didactics of Computing Science
Professorship of Computing Science Education, Department of Computing Science, School II
Main research focuses:
Several research and development projects – often funded by external grants and carried out in co-operation with other subject-specific didactics groups – investigate factors for improving the school subject of Computing Science. These factors fall into one of the following major sub-areas that underpin the delivery of Computing Science education: the teacher’s perspective, the pupil’s perspective and the teaching materials.
The aim is to develop a comprehensive concept for Computing Science education that spans from primary level through to further education for Computing Science teachers, and which focuses on the perspectives and needs of the respective learners. Consequently, the department’s research focuses on investigating pupils’ conceptual understandings of Computing Science, as well as analysing and developing teaching materials, teaching methods and conditions for teacher training in Computing Science.
In addition, a teacher training centre and a pupil centre for Computing Science are currently being established, both of which are closely integrated into the research projects. This so-called symbiotic implementation strategy always keeps the goal in focus: not only to gain new insights through research, but also to integrate these directly into school practice at the same time.
