My song (2019/20)
Drawing, Painting, Mixed Media
Exhibition in lecture theatre building A14
From 9 December 2019 to 6 January 2020
From 8 am to 8 pm
In the course "My Song" (Sose 19) at the Institute of Art and Visual Culture at the University of Oldenburg, students developed artistic works related to music, whereby the choice of media was up to them. The course was taught by Natascha Kaßner.
Drawings, paintings, objects, photographs and a film were created. A wide variety of songs and pieces of music were interpreted. Lorraine Todzy, for example, created little figures to songs by Lena Meyer Landruth that question the ideal of female beauty. The song "Kiss" by Prince prompted Rieka Benta to paint over photos and sew little kissing mouths. Jacqueline Menke has explored flamenco and photographed a dancer, created a metal object and abstract drawings. Hilko Meischen, on the other hand, has photographed himself interpreting Madonna with "Nowbody knows me" dressed up with electronic scrap and has heavily alienated the resulting photos on the computer. Lisa Stange's cheerful, voluptuous dancers hop across the leaves and Wiebke Ammen's stone sculpture is Bach's cello piece "Suite No 1" turned physical. This is just a selection of the works on display in the exhibition.
