Arrive!
From 29 April to 29 May, students from the Department of Art and Media at the University of Oldenburg are presenting their graphic works to the public for the first time in the exhibition "Arrive!" at the Horst Janssen Museum in Oldenburg.
The students have developed pictograms that explain everyday life and regional characteristics of the Oldenburg region to refugees and other new arrivals. With the support of lecturer Katia Liebmann, the artist Teréz Fóthy and the refugee counselling service of the Diakonie (social welfare organisation), 64 pictograms in postcard format were created last semester
as linocuts or woodcuts and printed using a hand press. The motifs focus on equal rights, punctuality, Kramermarkt and city festivals, national and regional customs.
After the exhibition, the cards will be printed and bound together with a book screw to form a fan. The cards can then be used universally, from primary school to adult work.
As soon as the exhibition has been set up, preparations will begin for the print run. They will then be distributed by the city and the deaconry.
"With the fan cards, the Integration Department wants to offer an initial orientation aid for new arrivals," explains Dr Natalia Petrillo, Integration Officer for the City of Oldenburg.
The exhibition "Arrive!" can be seen in the Horst Janssen Museum until 29 May and shows the motifs and the creation of individual cards as well as the production technology.
The project is also supported by the Integration Department of the City of Oldenburg, the OLB Foundation, the Oldenburg Citizens' Foundation and the Deaconry Foundation.
