visible/invisible (2016/2017)

Inspired by LIU BOLIN

Liu Bolin is a Chinese performance artist and photographer who immerses himself in his surroundings to such an extent that he has been nicknamed "The Invisible".

"Visibly invisible"

The university space as a place for photographic stagings was the focus of an event organised by the subject of art and visual culture under the direction of master photographer and lecturer Sabine Bley.

Inspired by the Chinese performance artist and photographer Liu Bolin, 15 art students explored the theme of "visible/invisible" and camouflaged themselves in everyday places by painting their bodies so that they almost merged with the respective background.

Selected locations with which the students have positive and negative associations, such as the foyer of the lecture theatre centre, a printing workshop in the art wing, a modern lecture theatre in A7, a climbing wall in the sports area or graffiti in the open-air hall, served as a backdrop for the everyday "disappearance" of the individual.

The photographs now shown in A1-A4 are timeless reflections on the relationship between people and space and invite us to take a closer look and search.
