in the lecture theatre centre (A 14), Uhlhornsweg 86, 26129 Oldenburg
Art students from the University of Oldenburg are showing their artistic work on the topic of "News" as part of an exhibition. Drawings, paintings, objects, photography and mixed media will be on display. The works were created during the winter semester 12/13 at the Institute of Art and Visual Culture as part of a practical course led by lecturer Natascha Kaßner.
The students selected news items from political and cultural events in order to reflect on them artistically. Not only the events themselves, but also the media that transport them, images, newspapers and their layout systems were included. The results are versatile and individual realisations. Alongside papier-mâché figures of former newspaper editor Countess von Dönhoff and US talk show host Oprah Winfrey, there are paintings on the Arab Spring and an installation on the Middle East conflict. Photomontages take aim at the current fashion press, while a photo series documents different uses of newspapers with regard to their demise. Filigree photographic objects illuminate the NSU assassination series, while a series of images soberly analyses the type area of newspaper pages.
But there are also works that seek a connection to the private and physical, such as a photo series that interprets the skin as the text of the body or the painterly reconstruction of a family history.
Participants: Janina Bergmann, Lydia Dirks, Jantje Sara Groeneveld, Svenja Hincke, Tajana Konradi, Eva Johanna Maibaum, Susanne Meyer, Lena Plescher, Julia Uhlig, Tamai Annika Woetzel, Undine Josephine Ricarda van Elsberg
The works can be seen in the lecture theatre building A14 on Uhlhornsweg from 8 to 19 June. A tour of the exhibition with students will take place on 12 June at 4 pm.
