At home in a foreign country - reports - future plans and career fields in focus
36 children and young people aged between 10 and 16 from Iraq, Syria, Slovakia and Poland explored their academic appointments as part of this cultural education project. They explored numerous occupational fields in an artistic process. They were accompanied by 19 student teachers specialising in the subject of art. Drawings, collages, objects and role plays were created and documented using photography and video.
The project not only gave them the opportunity to familiarise themselves with occupational fields, but also to become more at home in a new living environment and come into contact with people from the local professional world. Companies were selected and a catalogue of questions was drawn up. With a camera, pen and drawing pad, the children and young people set off in small mixed groups: they visited various craft businesses, theatres, an animal shelter, a kindergarten, a hospital, the fire brigade, the rescue service and the police. Photographs were taken of the respective working environments, work clothing and tools. The Chamber of Skilled Trades and Crafts was on hand to provide information. Interviews with employees were documented on video.
Portraits were taken of the children and young people in the clothing of their favourite occupation. Four videos were produced showing the process of working together. These are presented with the portraits in the exhibition.
