"Konfies"
A project by students of the Art and Visual Culture subject at the University of Oldenburg
, led by Thomas Robbers
“Konfies” is a project by students of the Art and Visual Culture subject at the University of Oldenburg. As part of the course ‘Digital Illustration Techniques’ in the summer semester of 2018, led by Thomas Robbers, the students created digital drawings which were realised in a monochrome stencil style based on photographs, modelled on the work of the English street artist Banksy.
Selfies are taken to show oneself in the best light: in front of a famous location, alongside celebrities or the trendiest friends. Hardly anyone would allow themselves to be photographed or filmed in unflattering, conflict-ridden situations. Our art project ‘Konfies’ is coming to you here at the conference ‘Me, You and the Others … Self-organisation – Self-governance and the Question of Meaning’.
Here you have the chance to interact with a wide variety of characters: make fun of silly A., have an argument with angry J., let the snooty L. put you down, let the unfaithful N. seduce you, come to the aid of the helpless L., push the staggering E. to the ground, let the cheeky M. provoke you – in short: Stage your own interaction with our art characters in a conflict situation, in your own way.
During the conference breaks, you’ll have the chance to take your own ‘Konfie’ using your smartphone. The students present will be happy to take a ‘Konfie’ of you – either a photo or a video. The recording will, of course, remain on your device as a memento, but you’re also welcome to email your ‘Konfie’ to 2018dgsftagung@gmail.com. Your ‘Konfie’ will then be published on the conference website on the DGSF2018 YouTube channel.
A short video on YouTube (DGSF2018) shows the students interacting with their ‘paper classmates’.
