Planetary worlds - printed and painted
a joint art project by students from the University of Oldenburg and children from class 3b at Haarentor primary school in Oldenburg.
The resulting works are on display at Haarentor Primary School, Schützenweg and at the Carl von Ossietzky University in the Faculty of Art/A8
from 24 July to 26 September 2014
The printing process has a special appeal for schoolchildren.
Children are fascinated by the production of the printing block, the technical peculiarities of the printing process itself, the use of materials and tools and, above all, the moments of surprise, such as the reversed result, the mirror writing and the appearance of the finished print as well as the abstractions. The pupils are also fascinated by the possibilities of duplication. They feel that there is something "eternal" about printing: ...what you document in black and white like this is "immortalising yourself".
In a playful and experimental approach to printmaking, the student project with the primary school pupils encouraged them to enjoy and engage with aesthetic processes.
A relaxed atmosphere, simple motifs and good preparation motivated them to simply get started and try things out. It was also important to modify one's own artistic behaviour in a mental and practical confrontation with the material and the process. This experience increases "aesthetic sensitivity in haptic and visual perception" and the ability to engage with unknown means of expression, such as collecting, exploring, testing, experimenting, combining and, of course, trying out the various printmaking techniques.
